Thanks to everyone who helped make May Day a success and also for the wonderful turnout at the prize presentation. Thanks also to everyone who took part this year and well done to the newcomers, especially Summer and Ollie, our budding gardeners in the children's section.
As you know, sadly we were one sunflower less this year with the passing of Keith who won both the tallest and the widest head prizes in 2008. We therefore feel it is fitting for the widest head prize to be renamed in memory of Eric Miller and also Keith Stevens in recognition of his support and enthusiasm for the competition while he was with us.
Below is a picture gallery of the May Day Fayre where we raised a whopping £1200 this year which was split 50/50 with the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and the British Heart Foundation as well as picture galleries of some of the specimens along the way and the prize presentation day. Unfortunately we have no pictures of Andy Duzniak (tallest record holder) who came in as runner up this year or newcomer Rosemary Oglivy as they both were unable to be with us due to prior commitments, but we are sure they will be in the picture frame next year!

2nd - Andy Duzniak 3.52m 11’ 6 ½” Andy still holds the tallest record at 3.74m (12ft 3 1/4in) (2007)
3rd - Helena and Francis Kelly 3.38m 11’ 1”
4th - Jim and Lorraine Carroll 3.11m 10’ 2 ½”
5th - Margaret Stevens 2.92m 9’ 7”
Widest Flowerhead

1st - Sue Dixon and Dad, Bill Barnard 44cm 17’ ¼”
Sue and Bill have set a new widest record beating Keith and Margaret Stevens with 37 1/2cm (14 3/4in) (2008)

Children’s winner 2009 - Ollie Beasley 3.53m 11’ 7”
Ollie's specimen actually was the second tallest in the whole competition beating Andy Duzniak by .01 of a metre!! Well done Ollie and watch out Andy!
